STAR WARS in 3D

Thats right people, the film saga that started a world wide cult phenomenon may be re-rendered and re-released in full 3D by 2015, but this has angered the millions of jedi wanabies who believe that the films should be left in there original state. The six films worth $4 billion alone at the box office, may not make such an impact the second time round as the fans have sworn not to see the re-rendered 3D versions. I for one would love to see these ground breaking films in full 3D!.

The star wars films have been going for 33 years now and here are some of the best scenes from all six movies.

Enjoy.

I want that.... "Toshiba Libretto W100"

We are loving the design of the new Toshiba Libretto W100.

After having an I Pad in the office for testing recently and liking it but not being particularly impressed, we have come across this lovely new design from Toshiba. The Toshiba design has some really cool features which make it a rather desirable piece of hardware..

1. Dual touch screen - This is a fantastic feature - one screen can be a QWERTY keyboard and the other a normal display. Alternatively use as a dual screen  notebook or as a book with two visible pages (Like a REAL book!)Watch a movie and surf the web at the same time, compose a document and search for images without changing screens. The list of reasons why this is better than an I Pad is ridiculous. As soon as this is 1080p HD it will be a real force to be reckoned with.

2. Fold away screens. - This is about longevity and aesthetics. The Toshiba doesnt need a case that could detract from its looks to protect its delicate screens.

3. Shareware - Commonly recognised ss one of Apples huge failings. You dont have to buy everything for your device from Apple, your music doesnt have to be solely purchased through Itunes. You dont need to jailbreak your kit and invalidate warranties to use the software you want.

4. The design - whilst we agree I Pad does look cool the Toshiba is like a DS on steroids as far as looks goes. It is slick, well put together and is certainly no worse to look at. We really like it.

Artist of the Week #25 Ben Procter

Ben Procter has been a concept artist for such films as The Terminal, Sky Captain and the Matrix Trilogy, but his best job title has to be Lead Robot Designer on both Transformers Movies. Ben Procter was definitely the guy for the job. With his ability to mix 3D modelling and Photoshop post-production, as well as the innovative design. Ben has to be one of the greatest digital character artists of this generation.

Make A Dream Charity

Hello All,

I wanted to tell you about a fantastic charity event that comes to Leeds United every November for one night only!

On the 11th November 2010 the Gala dinner event of Make A Dream returns to Elland Road's conference centre for a fun packed night but more importantly to raise as much money as possible.

Make A Dream is a Leeds based charity making “Dreams” come true for Yorkshire’s sick and terminally ill children. Throughout the night films of M.A.D stories play reminding everyone what their donations are helping to create. Some children want to swim with dolphins or visit NASA and others may only want a visit to a football stadium or to meet a famous celebrity. The charity raises money to help as many children fulfil their dreams, but some unfortunately don’t make it to their special day.

Most years I attend to help with the evening. The night is built up of around 120 tables of 12 guests, a three course meal, celebrity guests (this year being Bobby Davro, Sir David Frost and Harry Redknapp) and a vast range of products for auction. The nights aim is to raise as much money as possible but also allows guests to enjoy an eventful evening.

Ferrari World

Following the completion of the Burj Dubai, the world's tallest building, yet more extravagant projects are being proposed for the Middle East.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, set to open in 2010, is the world's first Ferrari theme park.

It boasts the world's fastest rollercoaster and the world's largest indoor park.

Located on Yas Island on the North East side of Abu Dhabi's mainland it is 50 minutes drive from Dubai.

The Ferrari rollercoaster reaches speeds of 240km/h and goes 0 to 100km/h in 2 seconds, with a G-Force of 1.7 Gs.

Safety goggles must be worn due to speed. It’s that fast

Amazing concrete...

The new Ofunato Civic Cultural Centre and library is a genius display of eccentric forms.

The centre was designed by the Meguro-based studio Chiaki Arai Urban and Architecture Design.  The design was mimicked by the distinctive coastline of the Pacific coast in Ofunato using layer upon layer of contoured concrete. These layers form inverted ‘river valleys’ that rise up above visitors heads, a truly incredible piece of architecture.

The hard edged exterior is the first element you see however it is the interior that really impresses...

3D Visualisation

Hi everyone,

I Just wanted to post an image that I have come across which, in my mind, demonstrates great use of mood lighting. The artist (Serkan Celik) has managed perfectly capture the mood of two different times of day/night. The high level of texturing in this piece only serves to compliment the artist’s keen eye for great lighting.

As always, I would like to hear from you all as to what techniques you think the artist may have used, as well as any comments / criticisms.

Artist of the Week #24 Daniel Simon

Daniel Simon is one of this generations best digital artists. Growing up in Germany in the 70's, Daniel had a hard time with a country divided. His family worked hard for hardly anything in the ship building industry in a small town east of the Berlin wall. Daniel grew up with a passion for sketching and painting but was told by everyone that is wasn't a possibility with the country as it was.

At the age of 14 the Berlin wall came down and Daniel finally had the world at his finger tips. Threw years and years of hard work in a world that he had little knowledge about. Daniel found his way to university in Barcelona were he was taught by the legendary Italian designer Walter De'Silva.

Since then Daniel has worked for some of the top car design studios in the world. but that wasn't enough. Daniel turned his sites to the film industry. He wanted to design concept vehicles for the silver screen. Unlike other designers, he didn't go looking for work. He created one of the best concept design portfolios in our generation which led the films studios to come looking for him.

Zaha Hadid and Suprematism

As a company interested in interiors and graphics, this exhibition by Zaha Hadid has immediately grabbed my attention! An energetic burst of black and white wall graphics support the geometric furniture and eclectic range of shapes and colours.

The exhibition was created for Galerie Gmurzynska to exhibit Hadid’s conclusion of her research into Russian Avant Garde. A project that originally stemmed from her graduation project at University, Hadid has developed an exhibition that juxtaposes her own work with the early twentieth- century Russian art pieces. The exhibition is the first to directly explore the connection between the work of Zaha Hadid and the Russian Suprematist artists (such as Kasimir Malevich).

Without knowing the reason behind the exhibition and the journey Hadid has undertaken, you can easily appreciate the "WOW" factor of the interiors and sculptural elements.

Unforseen design problems...

An architect/designer always seeks to iron out any technical or aesthetic issues prior to manufacture/construction of their project.

Unfortunately, some results can be unexpected:

Hotel Bars with top views #1

Greetings SoVibrant blog followers. Following a recent holiday, I'd like to share a couple of photos of an ace, high level hotel bar complete with swimming pool and open roof, just to make you jealous.

Located on the 33rd floor of Traders Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, the Skybar looks across to the KLCC Twin Towers via its completely open windows (no air-con here!) where you can sup mojitos and tiger beers and scoff spring rolls and crab cakes until your sick. Just marvelous.

An Armani Addition!

In keeping with the theme of a few of my past blogs I thought it would be nice to add to the Armani collection!

This Armani store sets a dominating presence in the heart of Tokyo’s Ginza shopping district. As in all of Armani’s buildings, it is essential that the store not only looks great and reflects the brand, but also captures the creative aspect of Armani himself. Not just a shopping tower, Armani goes to town by inhabiting a spa, restaurant, press offices and corporate space!

The expensive building of £20million stands proud in the famous Ginza Tower with a stunning facade of milk white plexi glass reflecting the surrounding Ginza Skyline.  Leaf like lights float down the facade changing in intensity and colour dependant on the time of year ... True Armani class!

To find out more about the store’s design and to explore more floors, visit http://www.armaniginzatower.com/armani_ginza_docs/en/index.html
