A flight or series of flights of steps and a supporting structure connecting separate levels. Also called stairway.
According to Wikipedia, 'Stairs are names for a construction designed to bridge a large vertical distance by dividing it into smaller vertical distances, called steps. Stairways may be straight, round, or may consist of two or more straight pieces connected at angles'.
Staircases can often be one of the most striking features of a design scheme and their forms can be inherently beautiful:
