The Olympic Games - The Finale

All good things must come to an end and yesterday saw the final chapter to a great summer of sport as hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets of London to cheer Britain's Olympic and Paralympic athletes in a celebratory parade.

Sunday was the last day at the Olympic park and I was determined to visit the end of this spectacle and sample the experience for myself. I managed to get tickets for the 7 a-side football at the riverbank stadium, which gave me access to the rest of the park on one of the hottest days of the summer.

Both games have brought nothing but positive comments about the delivery and organisation of these great events, and I am happy to say everything I was greeted with lived up to my expectation. Even getting to the Olympic park was a pleasure, on the brand new 7 minute javelin train from St Pancras, then walking through the pristine Westfield shopping centre, retail design heaven for an interior designer like myself. Right to the last day the volunteers we met were friendly and very helpful, which really showed their commitment to making sure people had a good time.

The Olympic park was massive but we still had a good walk round to see all the stadiums and structures from the Orbit to the award winning Velodrome, not an easy task in 28 degrees but well worth the effort. My only disappointment on the day was not being able to go up the Orbit to get an aerial view of the whole park. The tickets needed to be pre-booked at £15 each, which I thought was a bit steep considering people had already paid to get into the park itself. Hopefully they’ll bring this price down when the park re-opens to the public.

Below are a small selection of the pictures I took.  After Proms in the Park on Saturday (first picture) I finally got my true British weekend away. Definitely worth waiting for !

Long-exposure firework photographs by David Johnson

Check out these amazing long-exposure photographs of fireworks by David Johnson:

According to David, 'The technique I used was a simple refocus during the long exposure. Each shot was about a second long, sometimes two. I’d start out of focus, and when I heard the explosion I would quickly refocus, so the little stems on these deep-sea-creature-lookalikes would grow into a fine point. The shapes are quite bizarre, some of them I was pleasantly surprised with.'

He's being modest. They're like beautiful flowers enhanced by the jet black backgrounds:

Glassolutions - Saint-Gobain - 3D Visualisation

Hi everyone,

Busy times! We are all working hard on a wide range of exciting projects at the moment and will be starting to use our blog to share more of these with you over the coming months.

We have recently completed our first project for leading glass manufacturer Glassolutions, part of the Saint-Gobain group. We love working with clients who allow us to push the boundaries of their industry and with Glassolutions we have been doing just that. We have been combining our interior design and CGI skills to develop a range of virtual environments designed with Glassolution's exciting new product ranges. The environments aim to showcase the creativity, possibilities and quality of their glass-based products, without any of the unnecessary expense and hassle of building real-world environments. The finished visuals will be used in a number of ways including as part of Glassolutions new interactive online web tool

So...Photo-real, high quality, precise and most importantly creative.

With the VRay buffer set to legendary, here are some of the results...

The project has been a pleasure to work on and being part of a multi-disciplinary team it's always brilliant to combine our creative skills and work with great clients who think big!

I’m very pleased with the CGI work that SoVibrant produced for us, both in terms of the realism of the renders and the actual design of each environment. The team worked effectively to interpret the brief, using their in-house interior design team, and we kept the project on schedule. - Kathryn Dalgleish - Commercial Sector - Glassolutions

Design Classic no.246: Ferrari Dino

Named after Enzo Ferrari's late son, the Dino was Ferrari's attempt at a low cost sports car - originally to be branded without the Ferrari name which was to be reserved for twelve cylinder models.

Designed by Pininfarina and built at the Scaglietti works over the road from the Ferrari Maranello plant, the Dino was produced between '68 and '75. The mid-engined, rear wheel drive Dino was available with either a 2.0 or 2.4 litre V6, hence the names 206 and 246.

These images show the beauty of the Dino, now heralded as as a design classic of the 1970's, but are actually CGIs produced in Lightwave by Matthew Clark (portfolio).
