Welcome Back To Humanity

Here at SoVibrant Towers we love the new advertising campaign from Skype slamming the advent of social media and its assault on face to face communication.

Justin Cox senior strategic planner at Pereira & O’Dell, the brains behind the campaign states:

“We’ve become so reliant on technology to connect us in various ways that we now expect more from technology and social media and less of each other as people,”

“We edit and ‘delete’ ourselves. We bring social networking into the boardroom and email to the dinner table. We favor frequency of communication over depth of conversation. Suddenly we find ourselves at a point where communication is easier than ever, but far less human.”

Project Glass - Google Glasses Heads Up Display

Google has announced the testing of their new 'Project Glass' augmented reality glasses today. I have mixed feelings about this - on the one hand I'm  incredibly excited as they look amazing and seem to herald the impending integration of human biology and technology, on the other hand that very same quality is also quite frightening. I'm not keen on the idea that everything you see, do and interact with can be potentially downloaded. Our every day movements are already tracked and recorded by our mobile phones, and now everything we see and say could be too.

To end on a positive note I would almost definitely purchase a pair on release and look forward to the Terminator 2 style jailbreak!

King's Cross - Post 3

Following on from Charlie and Paul’s past blogs regarding the new £500m redevelopment at Kings Cross Station, I thought I would add my first hand experience of the re-design.
I have to say, on arrival to the station I never even saw what had just opened.  The busy hustle and bustle of London life led me directly to the underground, so it wasn’t until I was returning back “to the North” that I walked into the new space.

My first impression was “Wow!” It really does give Kings Cross something different.  The thing I found most interesting was the calming influence it appeared to have over its “visitors”.  I had left the busy underground, practically being pushed towards the station, to walk out into an overground utopia.  Everyone was calm and relaxed .... almost unheard of in the UK’s capital.

The central structure was the first thing I saw...  an incredible piece of architecture!  The “skeletal frame” or “string vest” as many call it, completely invades the new space, spanning across entrances, exits and a restaurant / facilities area on the first floor.  The concourse consists of 12,500 square metres of special laminated glazing, 5,700 square metres of Welsh Slate, and 2,500 square metres of photovoltaic panels.  It is artificially lit with coloured lighting which gives “visitors” a reason to look up.

It is however, SLIGHTLY disappointing not to see that the whole of the roof isn’t glazed however, like all projects, there will be a clear rationale behind the decision. Probably involving budgets!

Another giant leap for mankind

The term "Legend" can be defined as a person and or moment in history that will never be forgotten.
Neil Armstrong was the first man the to walk on the moon. Sir Edmund Hillary was the first man to summit Mount Everest.  Felix Baumgartner will soon become the first man to freefall from the edge of space at 120,000ft back down to earth speeding through the sound barrier at 768mph.
This incredible is the mastermind of Red Bull Stratos Director Art Thompson, more well known for the design and technology behind the B2 Stealth Bomber and On the 15th of March 2012. Felix and the team at Red Bull completed there first test jump from 72,000ft. His journey back to earth took just over 3 minutes... Below is a short video of that day. Hi everyone,

I just wanted to post up some details for 3DS Max 2013, which was announced by Autodesk recently.

Although there aren't as many new features as many people would like, they have managed to resolve a lot of the smaller very annoying issues and bugs.

Below is the link to the Autodesk features page. For all of us geeks out there I have also included a link to the Autodesk page which contains some of the beta test results and user feedback.

SOV's Highly Commended Website

As you may or may not know from an earlier blog, myself and Mike Carter (Director) attended the Ackrill Media Group Awards just a short time ago.

The evening was fantastic, everyone had made such a brilliant effort to dress for the occasion, the three course meal was outstanding and always a good thing, the champagne flowed all night long!!
SoVibrant had been shortlisted for 2 of the awards, “Best Company Website” and “Working for your business”.  We are very pleased to announce that we were Highly Commended for our website.  This is another fantastic achievement for us, still not yet 3 years old and the fifth award mention of 2012.
2012 is looking good.
